MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team opened up its 2001 dual match season with a victory over Wis.-Milwaukee, sweeping the Panthers, 7-0.
After earning the doubles point, Marquette cruised to a win, losing just eight games in singles play. At the no. 1 position, Marquette's Laura Garcia cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kaila Duff of UWM. Sommer LaValley at the no. 4 position accomplished a win by the same margin over Kate Laveck.
Marquette continues its season hours later with a match at the Helfaer Center against Ill.-Chicago.
