Marquette Volleyball Tops Saint Louis

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team notched its fourth straight win this evening, defeating Saint Louis in a C-USA match played at the MU Gym. The Golden Eagles raised their overall record to 15-8 (7-4 in C-USA) following a 19-30, 30-18, 30-26, 33-31 decision over the Billikens. The loss dropped SLU's record to 10-10 overall, 6-5 in the conference. The victory was MU's 10th in its last 12 outings and seventh straight triumph at home.
Freshman Jennifer Amobi (Silver Springs, Mary.) was Marquette's go-to player in the contest, registering 17 kills and recording a season-high 46.9 hitting percentage (17-2--32). Senior Vesna Grbavac (Palatine, Ill.) totaled 19 kills while senior Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) chipped in 13 attacks, eight digs and three blocks. Senior Tarah Beyer (Rockford, Ill.) contributed an exceptional defensive effort with a career-high 13 digs while recording a pair of service aces. Junior Danielle Hagen (Milwaukee) returned to the lineup from a three-match absence due to injury and chalked up 12 digs.
Saint Louis was paced by junior Colleen Hunter who totaled 25 kills and 12 digs.
For the match the Golden Eagles recorded a 23.1 attack percentage (62-23--169) compared to SLU's 22.0 percent (64-27--168). The Billikens enjoyed a 68-63 edge in digs while the Golden Eagles posted an 8-6 advantage in total blocks.
Marquette continues C-USA play on Wednesday (Oct. 31 ) when it ventures to DePaul.
