Marquette Volleyball Beats East Carolina

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team turned in a solid all-around performance this evening at the MU Gym and recorded a three-game win over East Carolina. The Golden Eagles raised their overall record to 8-6 (2-2 Conference USA) with a 30-19, 30-20, 30-20 triumph over the Pirates. ECU fell to 2-12 overall, 0-5 in C-USA.
Freshman Jennifer Amobi (Silver Springs, Mary.) paced a well-balanced MU offense with 10 kills while hitting a team-best 44.4 percent (10-2--18). Seniors Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) and Vesna Grbavac (Palatine, Ill.) each totaled nine kills with Grbavac tying freshman Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) and sophomore Megan Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) for the team lead with 10 digs.
For the match, Marquette finished with a 23.5 attack percentage (46-19--115) while holding ECU to .036 percent (28-24--110). Helping the cause for Marquette were 11 service aces (3 for ECU), four coming from Freer.
The Golden Eagles close out the weekend on Saturday (Oct. 6) with a home match against Charlotte starting at 7:00 p.m. at the MU Gym.
