The No. 16 Northwestern women's tennis team jumped Marquette from the start and left the Helfaer Tennis Stadium with a convincing 7-0 victory. The defeat puts the Golden Eagles, ranked No. 61, at 2-3 on the season.
Freshman Anabelle Espinosa, at No. 3 singles, forced a tiebreaker in the first set, but couldn't finish off Shannon Duffy. Espinosa lost the match 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Ana Pavlovic dropped her first set to Jessica Rush 6-3 but came back in her second set before losing it 7-5.
Pairing up at No. 2 doubles, Espinosa and Pavlovic nearly defeated Duffy and Marine Piriou but ended up dropping the match 9-7.
The Golden Eagles will continue their Big Ten tour as they match up against Indiana tomorrow at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The action will begin at 10 a.m.
