The Marquette women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Baylor on Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles were without senior Laura Garcia, ranked No. 59 in the country, due to back pain.
The injury to Garcia forced freshman Genevieve Charron to move up to No. 1 singles for the first time season and face Jahnavi Parekh, ranked 29th in the country at singles. Charron lost the match 6-1, 7-5.
At No. 4 singles, Veronica Briseno-Garcia beat Baylor's Frida Borjesson 6-3, 7-5.
The Golden Eagles were also without Anabelle Espinosa, Kristin Hosea and Amada Devraj. This forced Marquette to forfeit the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles matches. Espinosa and Devraj will not play on Saturday, the status of Garcia is questionable.
With the loss, Marquette falls to 5-11 on the season. The Golden Eagles will play Illinois tomorrow at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium at 11 a.m.
