MILWAUKEE - Head women's basketball coach Terri Mitchell has announced the hiring of Jill Jameson as assistant coach. Jameson has been an assistant coach for the past nine seasons, enjoying success at each of her stops. In all, Jameson has worked with four conference champion teams and had five seasons where her school has advanced to the postseason.
"She has had success everywhere she has been," Mitchell said. "She understands what it takes to be successful and I was looking for someone with that quality, among others that she possesses, to help continue the winning traditions we've established at Marquette University."
Jameson will be heavily involved in all aspects of the Marquette women's basketball program, but she will play a major part in recruiting and working with the guards.
"She comes highly recommended by so many coaches, especially from a recruiting aspect," Mitchell said. "I am confident she will help bring to Marquette the type of players we like to have in our program."
Jameson comes to Marquette after spending three seasons at Tennessee-Chatanooga and has impressive credentials. Prior to UTC, she spent one season at Francis Marion University and spent four seasons at Virginia Tech.
At UTC, Jameson was responsible for recruiting, scouting and promotions in off the court activities. On the floor, she was involved with the perimeter players. During her tenure at UTC, the Mocs showed vast improvement. Last season, UTC won the Southern Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Two seasons ago, Jameson helped the Lady Mocs to a regular season championship in the Southern Conference and a WNIT berth. In her first year at UTC, Jameson's work with the perimeter players helped set a school record with 188 three-point baskets, a mark that was the seventh best in the country that year. In three years at UTC, Jameson helped guide the Mocs to a combined 60-29 mark, two regular season Southern Conference titles, one postseason SoCon crown and two postseason appearances.
In her one season at Frances Marion, she was an assistant coach for a team that went 30-3, won its conference and advanced to the Division II Final Four.
Jameson also spent four seasons at Virginia Tech. She spent the first two years as a graduate assistant and was promoted to a full-time assistant coach after earning a master's degree in sports management. In her four seasons at Virginia Tech, the Hokies compiled a combined 67-53 record, won a Metro Conference regular-season championship, won a conference tournament title and advanced to the NCAA tournament on two occasions.
In her playing career, Jameson earned four letters at Northern Iowa. She scored 979 points, grabbed 244 rebounds and dished 158 assists in her career. Following her four years, Jameson started her coaching career at UNI, serving as a student assistant coach for one season.
A native of Jennings, Ind., Jameson has spent time outside of the traditional season working to make herself a better coach and working to make the players she coaches better as well. In April of 2000, she served as head coach of an Athletes in Action team that toured Macedonia. She also toured Australia in 1997 as part of an Athletes in Action team. She also has served as camp director of the Jennifer Azzi Basketball Camps in San Jose, Calif., and has served as a camp instructor at six other summer camps for the past 10 years.
Jameson replaces Tracey Tarkington, who left the program after 10 years to pursue personal opportunities. Her appointment is effective May 7.
