Golden Eagles Lose to Duke

In a tough day on the courts yesterday, the Marquette women's tennis team lost to Duke 7-0. The Blue Devils befuddled the Golden Eagles both in singles and doubles action.
In the No. 1 position, the No. 3 ranked Kelly McCain defeated sophomore Gen Charron (Quebec, Canada) 6-1, 6-3. Charron teamed with sophomore Vero Bresino (Coahuila, Mexico) in doubles action. The duo lost to McCain and the No. 26 ranked Amanda Johnson. Johnson defeated sophomore Eva Herrera (Zaragoza, Spain) in singles play, 6-2,6-0.
In the No. 3 spot, No. 15 ranked Julie DeRoo (who also played in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic) defeated Bresino 6-2, 7-5. In the No. 4 spot, Ioana Plesu beat junior Anna Pavlovic (Loyola Academy/Chicago, Ill.) 7-5, 6-4. In the No. 5 position, Saras Arasu won out over sophomore Sommer LaValley (Notre Dame Academy/Green Bay, Wis.) 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 6 position, Hillary Adams beat junior Alex Stankovic (Sollentuna, Sweden) by a score of 6-1, 6-1.
The duo of Adams and DeRoo defeated the tandem of Pavlovic and Herrera 8-1. Plesu and Katie Granson defeated LaValley and Anabelle Espinoza (Panama City, Panama) 8-1.
The Golden Eagles play again in the third place match today at 11 a.m.
