MILWAUKEE - A quick ricochet goal in the 62nd minute by South Florida midfielder Aaron Paroulek gave the Bulls (8-3, 3-2 C-USA) the only goal in an evenly played contest as they defeated Marquette (4-6, 2-2 C-USA), 1-0, in men's soccer.
Paroulek scored off a ball that bounded off the leg of Marquette defender Tom Nolan (Palatine, Ill.). USF forward Jeff Thwaites played a ball in the box that went off the right leg of Nolan to the right foot of Paroulek who one timed it into the net.
"We lost our shape a bit," head coach Steve Adlard said. "We had different personnel marking from different starting positions. Because of the nature of the play being so fast and unpredictable, the goal was created."
Marquette had several opportunities, owning the pace of play in the first half. MU had two chances taken away in the second half. One offsides call and one foul call negated balls that would have otherwise been goals.
"It's creates a loss of morale to not convert chances," Adlard said. "We created six superb chances. It's very sad we missed what were good opportunities."
The Golden Eagles owned a 9-6 shot on goal advantage, but were only able to get one shot directly on net, which was saved by USF keeper Troy Perkins. MU keeper Adam Ubert (Hartland, Wis.) made three saves on the night.
Marquette next plays on Tuesday, Dec. 15 against Charlotte at 7 p.m. at Valley Fields.
