Pavlovic Reaches Final in Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior Anna Pavlovic will be playing in the "Wolverine" singles flight final. She won two matches to reach the final of the draw. After receiving a first round bye, Pavlovic defeated Josie Schmulde of Michigan State in the second rouen, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 and downed Malena Remynse of Western Michigan, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 to advance to the final. She meets Karen Faltudo of DePaul for the flight title.
MU had five other singles players in action. Freshman Michelle Mojzis and junior Gen Charron played in the "Blue" singles flight. Mojzis pulled out with injury before her first round match with Dora Vastag of Michigan State. Charron lost to Szivia Kelelmen from DePaul, 6-0, 6-4. and withdrew from the consolation portion of the tournament. In the "Maize" flight.
junior Vero Briseno advanced to the third place match. She won her first match against Alyson Gabel of Bowling Green, 6-3, 6-2; advanced past Brenda Leung of DePaul, 6-2, 6-4; but fell to Keri Thompson of Michigan State in the semifinal; 6-2, 6-7, 0-1. She meets Rattiya Hiranrat of Western Michigan for third place of the flight. Freshman Kristin Minkowski played in the round robin singles, losing her first two matches. She fell to Blair Bertram of DePaul, 6-4, 6-2 and lost to Joanne Musgrove of Michigan, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, two MU teams will meet in the winners bracket consolation final of the "Victors" doubles draw. Briseno and Mojzis won their first match, 8-4 , over the Michigan State tandem of Brady and Thomas, but lost 8-0, to the Michigan team of DuPrez and Plaushines. They advanced in the consolation round over Italia and Molony of Cincinnati, 8-3. They will meet Charron and Pavlovic , who had the same route. An 8-2 win over Malone and Schoenberger of Bowling Green led to a 8-1 loss to Lay and Vastag of Michigan State, 8-1. They upended Linden and Thompson of Michigan State, 8-4 to meet their teammates in the consolation final.
