Marquette Volleyball Tops TCU

Milwaukee - The Marquette volleyball snapped a four-match losing streak Friday evening with a three-game win over TCU. The Golden Eagles topped the Horned Frogs, 31-29, 32-30, 30-20, in raising their overall record to 11-11, 2-7 in Conference USA action. TCU saw its record slip to 10-14 overall and 2-6 in the league.
Freshman Aga Niemcezewska (Vernon Hills, Ill.) led the Marquette attack with 16 kills while chipping in four digs. Freshman Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) totaled 15 attacks and hit a match-high 44.4 percent (15-3--27). Sophomore Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.) rounded out the double-figure kill performers for MU with 12. Sophomore Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) led all players with 16 digs while junior Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) dished out 35 assists.
For the match, Marquette hit 25 percent (55-22--132) while TCU finished with a 21.9 percent effort (40-15--114). The Golden Eagles posted a slim 47-45 edge in digs while showing a 6-4 margin in total blocks.
After capturing a pair of nip-and-tuck affairs in the first two games, Marquette bolted out to a 10-2 advantage in game three en route to the victory. In the final game, the Golden Eagles hit a solid 35 percent (19-5--40) and were paced by Niemcezewska's eight kills and 46.7 hitting percentage.
Freshman Carissa Mills and sophomore Dominika Szabo each finished with nine attacks for TCU.
Marquette's next action takes place Saturday evening (Nov. 2) at 7:00 p.m. when it plays host to Houston at the MU Gym.
