MILWAUKEE - Veronica Garcia-Briseno and Michelle Mojzis lost their second round matches at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, while Eva Trujillo-Herrera advanced in the consolation round. On the men's side, all three Marquette doubles teams lost, ending the MU men's team's appearance at the Classic.
Mojizis lost in the round of 16 to fifth seeded Caitlin Burke of Cedarburg High School, 6-0, 6-3. Garcia-Briseno fell to Catherine Lynch of California, the second seed, 6-1, 6-0.
In the consolation round of 16, Trujillo-Herrera advanced to the consolation quarterfinals with a win over Michelle Baur of Butler, 6-1, 6-0. She will meet eighth seed Kit Carson of SMU in the consolation semifinals. Alex Stankovic of Marquette lost to Shelby Lipson of Illinois State, 6-4, 6-2.
In women's doubles, Mojzis and Lindsey Sauss of Racine High School won twice, defeating Michelle Baur of Butler and Elizabeth Hayden of Stetson, 8-3. They won their first round match against Tayo Bailey of Butler and Nicky Koopman of Robert Morris, 8-5, to advance to the round of 16.
Stankovic and Trujillo-Herrera lost their first round doubles match to fourth seed Nicole Havlicek and Catherine Lynch of California, 8-4. MU's other doubles team of Annabelle Espinosa and Garcia-Briseno lost to Alaina Griffin and Christin Laun of Butler, 9-8.
All three Marquette's men's doubles teams lost. Fifth seeded Kevin Gill of Butler and Rajeev Ram of Illinois beat Ian Kawas and Eigintas Vedrickas, 8-5. Fourth seed Aaron Forsberg and Erick Martinez of Northern Illinois downed Kent Davies and Justin Holsen, 8-4. MU's tandem of Creighton Macy and Matt Mueller lost to seventh seeded Tomy Hanus and Adam Schaecterle of Northwestern, 8-1.
The tournament continues through Sunday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
