Veronica Garcia Briseno (Torreon, Mexico, ITESM) was named MVP of the 2002-03 Marquette women's tennis team at the university's all-sports awards banquet. The junior finished the 2003 season with an overall Conference USA singles record of 5-2, going a strong 5-0 when playing at the No. 4 spot. She ended with a team high win-loss record of 24-12. When playing No. 2 doubles, she went 5-1. In singles play she opened up the 2003 season going 5-0 and winning ten of her first 13 matches. Garcia Briseno went 3-0 playing in the fourth position at the C-USA tournament, defeating Viktoria Gruber (Memphis) 6-7, 6-1, 6-3, Marilyn Clark (Charlotte) 7-5, 6-4 and Natalie Matko (DePaul). She lost the consolation match of Wolverine Invitational in October to Rattiya Hiranrat (Western Michigan) 6-2, 4-6, 1-0.
