Trujillo Herrera Named Second Team All-Conference

Milwaukee-Conference USA announced its All-Conference awards list this afternoon, on it were two of Marquette's junior tennis players. Junior Eva Trujillo-Herrera (Zaragoza, Spain, I.E.S. Goya) was named Second Team All-Conference while junior Veronica Garcia Briseno (Torreon, Mexico, ITESM) received the sportsmanship award.
Trujillo Herrera went undefeated in the 2003 season when playing at the No. 1 singles spot in conference play. She defeated Natascha Immele (UAB) on April 6, 6-1, 6-0 and Szilvia Kelemen of DePaul on April 4, 6-2, 6-2. Trujillo Herrera went 3-1 when facing Conference USA opponents. She defeated DePaul's Marina Parashkevova on April 12, Patricia Kolendo of South Florida, 6-1, 7-5 (March 12), and Amy O'Handley of St. Louis, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 (March 11). On March 2, Trujillo Herrera marked up a 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 win over #104 Andrea Yung of Northwestern. She finished the season third on the team in wins with her 10-18 overall record and went 5-1 in league play.
Veronica Garcia Briseno, junior (Torreon, Mexico, ITESM) finished the season with an overall Conference USA singles record of 5-2, she went a strong 5-0 when playing at the No. 4 spot. She finished with a team high overall win-loss record of 24-12. When playing No. 2 doubles, she went 5-1. She opened up the 2003 season going 5-0 and winning ten of her first 13 matches. Garcia Briseno went 3-0 playing in the fourth position at the C-USA tournament, defeating Viktoria Gruber (Memphis) 6-7, 6-1, 6-3, Marilyn Clark (Charlotte) 7-5, 6-4 and Natalie Matko (DePaul). She lost the consolation match of Wolverine Invitational in October to Rattiya Hiranrat (Western Michigan) 6-2, 4-6, 1-0.
The Golden Eagles finished the season 5-18, ending the season with a loss to Memphis in the fifth-place tie game of the C-USA tournament.
Tulane made league history when Jenny Kuhn became the first player to collect both Player and Freshman of the Year honors. Her coach David Schumacher was named Coach of the Year for the second time.
