Coming off two straight home victories, the Marquette women?s tennis team faced the difficult prospect of facing 23rd-ranked Illinois (1-0) in its first road contest of the season.
The Golden Eagles (2-1) suffered tough setbacks in the doubles matches, losing all three, including a 8-1 loss for no.1 doubles team of Veronica Garcia Briseno and Genevieve Charron to 10th-ranked Jennifer McGaffigan and Cynthia Goulet.
Gracia Briseno came up short in her redemption match against #22 McGaffigan in the no. 1 singles, taking a 6-2, 6-4 loss. The rest of the singles? matches ended in similar results for Marquette, with each player losing in straight sets. The lone exception was Annabelle Espinosa, who improved her singles record to 3-0, with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory over Emily Wang at the no. 6 singles.
