Updated Marquette Results and Records
The Golden Eagles tennis team returns from a four-match road swing to take on in-state rival Wisconsin, as the teams face off Saturday night at 6:30 at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Marquette?s campus.
The match will be Marquette?s second straight match against a Big Ten opponent, as the Golden Eagles were outmatched at Iowa last weekend, losing 6-1.
Wisconsin comes into the weekend sporting a 3-4 record. They will take on DePaul on Feb. 13 before coming to Milwaukee. Ranked 66th in the February 10th ITA rankings, the Badgers have won three straight meetings against the Golden Eagles, including a 7-0 victory last year in Madison.
As host of the ITA National Team Championships, Wisconsin is coming off a weekend of solid competition, having taken on #6 Vanderbilt, #23 Tennessee and #9 North Carolina.
Marquette is also in the midst of a tough schedule. The Wisconsin contest will be the fourth out of five in which the Golden Eagles have faced ITA-ranked competition. Marquette head coach Jody Bronson knows the tough schedule will ultimately help the young Marquette team develop. ?We?re just trying to improve day-by-day, match-by-match,? she said. ?They understand this is what it?s going to be like every match, knowing you have to show up for every point.?
