Women's Tennis Advances in C-USA Tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sixth-seeded Marquette defeated Southern Miss, 4-1, to advance to the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship at Seneca Park on Thursday. Marquette will now face No. 3 Houston on Friday at noon while No. 12 USM will take on Cincinnati in the consolation round on Friday at 9 a.m. Both matches will be played at Seneca Park.
The Marquette tandem of Veronica Garcia Briseno and Callan Smith narrowly defeated Nicola Slater and Katharina Sadofsky, while Francina Bonnelly and Eva Trujillo Herrera won at No. 3 against USM's Olivia Berry and Courtney Ulrich, 8-4.
After losing the doubles point, Southern Miss fought back claiming the No. 1 singles spot. Slater notched a 6-4, 7-5 decision over Marquette's Briseno. However, MU claimed the No. 2, 4 and 5 singles positions with Bonnelly sealing the victory with a 7-5, 7-6 decision over Berry at No. 5.
