Women' Tennis Falls to ISU

Maria Calbeto and Callan Smith defeated ISU?s duo of Ashley Maxwell and Veronique Parke-Bedard, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. Their effort was not enough to capture the doubles point, as Marquette lost at No. 2 and No. 3.
Coming out of the doubles point down 1-0, Marquette moved into singles play, where they only came out with a win at No. 4. Erin Watkins had a convincing win over ISU?s Carolyn Parent, 6-1, 6-1.
?Erin had a great week of practice,? said head coach Jody Bronson. ?She is really focusing on her positioning when taking shots and she showed that today.?
At No. 1 singles Callan Smith had to play from behind, losing in tiebreak to Elizabeth Bingier, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (8).
?Callan dug a hole in the first set,? Bronson said. ?She put up a fight to come back in the second.?
Marquette will hit the road on Wednesday and head to Madison where they?ll face the Badgers at 4 p.m.
