Marquette junior leads team to 12th place standing
CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. ? The Marquette golf team placed 12th after two rounds of the El Diablo Intercollegiate in Citrus Springs, Fla. On the difficult El Diablo Golf and Country Club, Marquette shot rounds of 311 and 308 to finish 619 (43-over par).
Only one team put up a round of under 300. Oklahoma City shot a 293 in the first round and led after 36 holes with a 19-over, 595. The early morning start was delayed by frosty conditions, which may have created some of the lofty scores.
The Golden Eagles were led by sophomore Michael Bielakwski, who shot a 75 in the first round and 74 in the second. With a five-over, 149, Bielawksi placed 14th. He is just four shots off the pace, set by Mike Claman of Florida Gulf Coast and Nick McDaniel of Eastern Kentucky at 145.
Junior Kyle Murphy was three shots behind Bielawski, rebounding from a first-round 79 with a second-round 73. His 152 has him at eight over par.
Freshman Ted Gray, Marquette's most consistent golfer of the season, is in 38th place after two rounds, shooting 11-over 155. Juniors Steve Sass and Joe Weber are a part of a seven-way tie in 79th place at 19-over, 163.
The tournament concludes with a final round on Sunday, March 20.
