Marquette senior to take part in 64-player match play national championship
MILWAUKEE ? Marquette senior Nathan Colson qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
This is the second time in three years that Colson has qualified for the major amateur championship.
In 2003, Colson finished the qualifying round in sixth position of 64 who qualified. He had an early exit, however, as he was upset in the first round by the 58th-seed, Jason Harris of Clemmons, N.C., 2-and-1.
"This is great experience for Nathan, playing in a USGA national event," said Tim Grogan, head golf coach at Marquette. "The top collegiate and amateur players will be competing. He's looking to improve on his past performance, but its just an exceptional opportunity regardless of how well he does."
Colson, a senior who redshirted in the 2004-05 season and Marquette's career scoring leader, will compete in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship on July 11-16 at Shaker Run Golf Course in Lebanon, Ohio.
