Women's Tennis Defeated by Indiana State, 5-2

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After winning back-to-back matches last weekend, the Marquette women's tennis team was defeated by Indiana State, 5-2, in Bloomington, Ind., at the Indiana Tennis Center Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 2-4 in dual competition this season.
Marquette pulled in two wins in singles play with sophomore Erin Watkins dominating Faszai Masiyazi, 6-2, 6-2, at no. 3 singles, and freshman Robin Metzler scoring a 7-5. 6-2 decision over Imane Lahlou, at the sixth position.
Despite winning her first set, junior Dominika Dabrowski was outdone by Sarah Galporoli, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at no. 4 singles. Junior Francina Bonnelly fought hard to win the second set after losing her first, but Maria Caujolle battled back to win the third set and the match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
At no. 2 singles, sophomore Maria Calbeto was defeated by Joanne Schickerling, 6-4, 6-2. With her win, Schickerling rolled to her 15th consecutive win in singles, dating back to last season.
The Golden Eagles were unable to clinch the doubles point, but did win a match at no. 2 doubles. The tandem of Bonnelly and Watkins took down Caujolle and Galporoli, 8-3.
The Golden Eagles will have a short break before they meet no. 31 Indiana at the Indiana Tennis Center Saturday, at 10 a.m. EST.
