MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Big East opponent Syracuse on Sunday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium, snapping their five match win streak.
The Golden Eagles were not able to come away with the doubles point as Beba Calbeto and Lauren Little fell at no. 1 to Syracuse's Victoria Vaynberg and Catherine Zawadzki, 8-4. The tandem of Dominika Dabrowski and Robin Metzler came up short at no. 2 against Katie Bramante and Wei-Ming Leong, 8-4.
Marquette lacked the intensity needed to recover in singles, losing at all six positions. Sophomore Erin Watkins forced a tiebreaker at no. 3, when she lost the first set to the Orange's Maria Vasilveva, 6-0. She recovered in the second set to win 3-6, but lost in the tiebreaker 10-5.
Calbeto and Little were competitive at no. 1 and no.2 but both lost with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Marquette's record falls to 8-12 in the dual match season.
