GLENCOE, Ill. - After shooting a five-under par, 66, for the final 18 holes, junior Mike Van Sickle stormed back from seventh place and claimed a share of the Windon Memorial title Monday afternoon at the the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. His 54-hole total of 206 was matched by Minnesota's Clayton Rask.
Collectively, the Marquette golf team finished tied for ninth place with New Mexico as both teams registered a team score of 872 (20-over par) for three rounds.
Host Northwestern took the team title after shooting a third round of four-under, 279, for a final total of 848. Kent State led the standings with a nine-under, 559, team score through two rounds and finished the tournament one stroke back of the Wildcats.
Following Van Sickle was senior Ted Gray who finished in a two-way tie for 36th place with a seven over par, 220. Fellow classmate Mike Bielawski placed 54th at 13 over, 226.
Junior Dustin Schwab rounded out the scoring for Marquette with a 14-over, 227 and in four-way tie for 55th place.
After 36 holes Marquette sat in 10th place at 14-over par, 582. Van Sickle carded MU's best score through two rounds with back-to-back 70s.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 27 when they tee-off at the BIG EAST/MAC Challenge in Winter Garden, Fla.
