Women's Tennis Falls at No. 31 Michigan, 5-2

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Marquette women's tennis team got two singles wins from junior Shannon Brown and sophomore Robin Metzler, but it was not enough as the Golden Eagles fell at no 31 Michigan, 5-2, Saturday at Varsity Tennis Center. With the loss, Marquette saw its four-match win streak snapped and dropped to 6-10 on the season.
In doubles play, Michigan got rolling early with a 8-0 shut out of sophomore Lauren Little and Brown at no. 1 doubles. The Wolverines secured the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead with wins at the two remaining doubles positions.
Michigan's Kara Delicata took down freshman Kylie Moore, 6-3, 6-2, at no. 2 singles to give the Wolverines a 2-0 advantage. Chisako Sugiyama, ranked no 76 in the nation, made 3-0 in favor of Michigan with a 6-3, 6-1 decision at no. 1 singles.
Tania Mahtani clinched the win for Michigan with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at no. 3 singles over junior Erin Watkins.
Marquette's two wins came late in the match as Metzler took a two set, 6-4, 7-5, win from Allie Shafner at no. 4 singles, and Brown was the last player off the court after her 7-6 (5), 7-6 (9) triumph over Tanvi Dudhela at no. 6 singles.
Marquette will return to the courts on Saturday, March 24, for a doubleheader with Illinois State and Wis.-Green Bay beginning at 10 a.m., at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
