Marquette Defeats Syracuse, 4-3

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Marquette swept the doubles point and won three of the first four singles matches to defeat Syracuse for the first time after joining the BIG EAST last season. It is the third straight win for the Golden Eagles who improve to 5-9 overall on the season.
The Golden Eagles set the tone early, by sweeping the doubles point.
In singles play, junior Shannon Brown kept things cooking for the Golden Eagles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Anne Magellan at no. 6 singles. At no. 5 singles, sophomore Robin Metzler took down Ashley Lipton, 6-4, 6-2. Junior Erin Watkins sealed the win for Marquette with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Catherin Zawadzki at the no. 3 slot.
Marquette returns to action Saturday, March 3, against Brown at 11 a.m. ET.
