Men's Golf Finishes Third at Jim Colbert Intercollegiate

The Marquette men's golf team finished third in its first tournament of the season Tuesday at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate hosted by Kansas State. Junior Mike Van Sickle led Marquette with a one over par, 217, and finished tied for second place. Van Sickle shot a 73 in the final round of play.
Marquette finished the tournament 34-over par, 898, and 23 strokes behind winner Miami (Ohio) who finished with a team score of 875. The Golden Eagles played its best golf in the third round and finished eight over, 296.
Miami's Michael Drobnick captured the individual title finishing with an even par, 216.
Behind Van Sickle, senior Mike Bielawski tied for 12th place with a nine-over, 225. He had MU's best third round score with a 71. Fellow senior Ted Gray finished 12 over par, 228.
Rounding out the scoring for the Golden Eagles was freshman Kelly Kretz. He shot a 77 for the final 18 holes and finished in a four-way tie for 33rd place with teammate Dustin Schwab. Both finished the tournament with a three-round total of 234.
The Golden Eagles return to action Oct. 1-2 at the Xavier Invitational.
