Women's Tennis Falls to No. 46 Iowa, 5-2

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Marquette women's tennis team got singles wins from freshman Rachael Hush and junior Robin Metzler, but fell at No. 46 Iowa, 5-2. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 1-4 on the dual season.
Iowa started strong in doubles play sweeping all three matches. It was the first time in four matches MU didn't win the doubles point.
At the number one position, Jacqueline Lee and Alexis Dorr defeated junior Lauren Little and senior Shannon Brown, 8-3. Mili Veselinovic and Merel Beelen followed with an 8-1 victory over senior Maria Calbeto and freshman Christina Ruiz at No. 2 doubles, while Kayla Berry and Lynne Poggensee-Wei took down the No. 3 duo of senior Erin Watkins and freshman Rachael Hush, 8-4.
In singles action, Iowa took a commanding 3-0 lead as Watkins and Ruiz went down in straight sets. Lee sealed the win for the Hawkeyes after she took down Little, 6-3, 6-3, at the top singles slot.
At No. 5 singles, Hush earned her third straight victory by defeating Kelcie Klockenga in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Metzler also continued her strong effort also with a three-set defeat of Berry at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
The Golden Eagles will remain on the road when they play at Indiana on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 9 a.m. CT.
