Golden Eagles Jump Into Soccer America Poll at No. 22

MILWAUKEE - Following a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 victory over No. 24/13 Connecticut and a 0-0 tie against Providence, the Marquette women's soccer team jumped into the national rankings Monday. The Golden Eagles are ranked No. 22 by Soccer America in its latest poll.
After the Huskies went ahead 2-0 by the 20th minute, junior Stephanie Vasos and senior Anna Sawicki helped even the score for the Golden Eagles with goals in the 41st and 43rd minute, respectively, while sophomore Rachael Sloan put away the game winner in the 108th minute. Against Providence, Marquette out-shot the Friars, 24-5, yet was unable to find the back of the net in 110 minutes of play Sunday.
The Golden Eagles stand 9-4-2 overall, and 3-2-2 in BIG EAST Conference action. The Golden Eagles have played four Top-25 teams, including then-No.1 North Carolina, and a handful of others who have received votes. MU stands 2-2 overall this season against ranked foes with wins over then No. 23 Minnesota (1-0) and then-No. 24/13 Connecticut in double overtime (3-2).
Marquette will take to the road for the remainder of the 2009 regular season, beginning Friday, Oct. 16 at Cincinnati. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
