CHICAGO, Ill. - The Marquette women's basketball team got off to a great start but couldn't sustain it as DePaul rallied for a 73-63 victory Sunday afternoon at McGrath Arena.
Tatiyiana McMorris set career highs with 17 points and five 3-pointers for MU (13-8), breaking her marks of 16 and four set against No. 1 Connecticut on Jan 13. Jessica Pachko and Sarina Simmons each scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
DePaul (15-7) was led by Sam Quigley with 20 points, followed by Keisha Hampton with 17 and Felicia Chester with 14. Katherine Harry added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Both teams are now 4-4 in BIG EAST play.
MU made 13 of its first 19 shots and took its biggest lead at 33-21 thanks to a 14-4 run. Seven Golden Eagles scored at least four points in the first 11 minutes, led by Jocelyn Mellen with seven.
DePaul scored the next nine points and closed the first half on a 20-6 run to take a 41-39 lead as MU missed 15 of its last 18 shots.
Things got worse after intermission as the Blue Demons scored the first 10 points of the second half. MU didn't get on the board for nearly seven minutes until a driving layup and a 3-pointer by McMorris made it 51-44.
But that was as close as the Golden Eagles would get the rest of the way. MU was just 9-32 from the floor in the final 20 minutes.
Angel Robinson, who scored 20 points to lead MU to an upset victory over No. 17/15 Georgetown on Wednesday, was held to six on 1-18 shooting, but did have six assists and five steals.
MU is off until Saturday when it plays at Syracuse at noon CT.
