
Nelson Leads MU On Day One at Kiawah Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Led by sophomore Nick Nelson's first-round 2-under par 70, the Marquette University men's golf team is tied for third place after day one of the Wendy's Kiawah Classic.
Nelson carded five birdies Sunday at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Turtle Point Golf Course and is tied for third place on the individual leaderboard. Fellow sophomore Pat Sanchez shot 73 to help lead the Golden Eagle's charge.
MU finished with a first-round team score of 292, which has them knotted with Presbyterian and tournament host Charleston Southern, one stroke behind second-place Radford. South Carolina (283) is currently in the lead with two rounds remaining.
Second round action gets underway at 7 a.m. Central time tomorrow. Freshman Henry Klongland is the first Marquette golfer to tee off Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available at Golfstatresults.com.
