The Marquette women's tennis team (9-5) dropped a hard-fought match at fellow BIG EAST opponent Rutgers on Friday at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.
Junior Rocio Diaz and sophomore Ali Dawson fell at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, while freshmen Aleeza Kanner and Aina Hernandez Soler dropped their doubles point, 8-4. Sophomore Ana Pimienta and freshman Erin Gebes did not finish at No. 2 singles, but had played to 8-8.
Pimienta fought hard to win at No. 1 singles after falling in her first set, 7-5. She bounced back with a 7-5 decision and a marathon 14-12 score to earn a point for MU. Dawson won her singles flight over Mariam Zein, 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.
Marquette will travel to former conference foe, West Virginia on Sunday, March 3 at 10 a.m. CT.
