Callawassie Island, S.C. - The Big East Men's Golf Championship got under way Sunday morning as nine teams compete for the conference crown and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Marquette jumped out to a hot start and currently sits second overall as junior Brandon Cloete led the way with a 1-under par 71. Pat Sanchez played solid shooting a 2-over par 74 putting him tied for sixth as CJ Swift and Zach Gaugert currently sit in tied for ninth.
Ben Ludiam leads the pack for St. John's with a 2-under par 70 as the Johnnies also have the overall team lead after day one. Marquette currently has a team score of 295 while St. John's has a five-stroke lead with 290. The second round tees-off tomorrow and the final 18 holes will take place on Tuesday.
