MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team will open the 2015 portion of its campaign by traveling to Bloomington, Indiana, for the annual IU Winter Invitational this weekend.
The three-day event begins at 10 a.m. Central Time on Saturday, Jan. 17, and will continue through Monday. The competition will feature both singles matches with predetermined pairings and a tournament-style bracket of doubles matches.
Oregon, Abilene Christian and the host Hoosiers will be Marquette's opponents over the weekend.
Saturday will be the first time the Golden Eagles take the court since concluding the WMU Super Challenge in Kalamazoo, Michigan, two months ago. Freshman Paula Tormos Sanchez and junior Aleeza Kanner both went 2-1 in singles play at Western Michigan, while senior Ana Pimienta and junior Erin Gebes teamed up for a pair of doubles wins on the first day of the tournament.
At last season's IU Winter Invitational, Marquette found success in doubles play, with three MU duos claiming victories on the tournament's final day. Current seniors Ana Pimienta and Vanessa Foltinger also earned singles wins in Bloomington last January.
Play concludes Monday at noon CT.
