
Women's Tennis Handles Milwaukee, 6-1

MILWAUKE - The Marquette University women's tennis team topped Milwaukee 6-1 Saturday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
Trailing 2-1 early in the a doubles match on court two, the duo of senior Ali Dawson and junir Aleeza Kanner stormed back to win 8-3. On court one, senior Ana Pimienta and junior Erin Gebes took a commanding lead early and held off a Milwaukee rally, winning 8-4.
Senior Vanessa Foltinger and freshman Paula Tormos Sanchez trailed 6-3 and rallied with two straight victories to make it 6-5 on court three. The duo from Milwaukee then claimed another game.
With MU trailing 7-6 and facing defeat, an overhead smash from Tormos Sanchez gave MU new life in a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker Foltinger and Tormos Sanchez finished their comeback (8-7 (5)) and helped Marquette earn a doubles point.
The Golden Eagles also had a strong showing in singles play. Pimienta, Dawson, and Foltinger all won in straight sets to give Marquette a victory over the Panthers.
Sophomore Diana Tokar, who did not compete in doubles, also won her match in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).
Marquette takes a short break before it welcomes Bradley for a match later this afternoon at 5 p.m. Central time.
