SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. -- Marquette's Nick Nelson continued his outstanding summer play with a second victory in less than a month, winning the 2015 Wisconsin State Golf Association (WSGA) Match Play Championship sponsored by Taylor Made at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms.
Nelson capped the three-day event (June 16-18) by making par on the 19th hole in the championship match to win over defending champion Josh Udelhofen of Clarke (Iowa) University. The event began with 168 players and included seven rounds of play for Nelson and Udelhofen. Nelson's path to the title included 21 holes in the first round of match play.
The win is Nelson's second since the end of the collegiate season - he shot a 1-under-par 71 to earn medalist honors at U.S. Open Local Qualifying at Hidden Glen Golf Club in late May. Nelson fell short in his attempt to qualify for the 2015 U.S. Open, finishing 3-over-par in the challenging 36-hole, single-day sectional qualifier at Springfield (Ohio) Country Club.
Marquette players Zach Gaugert, Henry Klongland, Garrett Loomis and Charlie Maleki also qualified for the WSGA Match Play Championship.
