CHICAGO - Led by Oliver Farrell's 2-over-par (70-74-144; T-6) and Matt Murlick's 6-over-par (72-76-148; T-11) first day performances, Marquette (297-300-597) is in second place after 36 holes at the Northern Intercollegiate, hosted by Northern Illinois at Beverly Country Club.
Charlie Maleki, playing as an individual, posted a 36-hole 3-over-par 145 (74-71) and sits tied for eighth on the leaderboard.
Scoring conditions were challenging on the first day of the Northern Intercollegiate - only No. 1-ranked Illinois finished under par as a team (10-under-par) and four Illini players were the only ones to score at par or better on the par-71, 7,016-yard course. Marquette and Illinois were team playing partners for the opening two rounds.
EVENT NOTES
- After struggling to a 37th-place finish at the Marquette Intercollegiate, Farrell started a new weekend with better results - he knocked in five birdies and went 1-under-par in the first round.
- Sunday was also a rebound effort for Maleki, who finished tied for 49th at the Marquette Intercollegiate. He carded a 74 out of the gate and after two bogeys on his first three second round holes, went 2-under-par with no bogeys on his final 15 holes to post a second round 71.
