Ambrosio Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

NEW YORK -- Silvia Ambrosio of the Marquette University women's tennis team has been named BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week after her impressive play to conclude regular season action against DePaul last weekend.
Ambrosio notched a 6-4 victory over No. 54 ranked Rebeca Mitrea and Yuliya Shupenia from DePaul at the No. 1 doubles spot with her partner Erin Gebes. The win on April 22 improved the tandem's record to 11-4 this season. Following doubles play, Ambrosio dominated in a win on the No. 1 singles court over No. 77 Shupenia 6-2, 6-4, which was Marquette's lone singles point of the day.
Freshman Ambrosio was monumental in the Golden Eagles' 11-8 mark in dual match action this season, where she compiled a 12-7 mark on the No. 1 singles court and an 11-4 record at No. 1 doubles with Gebes. The newcomer finished her singles season with an 8-2 record in her last ten matches, the best amongst the Golden Eagles. ?
Marquette enters the BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 Georgetown in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 29 at 11:30 a.m. Central time in Cayce, S.C.
