NORMAN, Okla. - Graduated Marquette senior Nick Nelson was named a Division I Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for the second straight season, the Golf Coaches' Association of America (GCAA) announced on Wednesday.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
In his senior season, Nelson was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection, earning conference accolades for the second time in his career. He was second on the team and seventh in the league with a 73.38 stroke average, sixth-best in a single season at Marquette.
Nelson posted a 74.89 career scoring average, sixth in program history, along with 33 career par-or-better rounds, good for third in program records. He helped Marquette to its second BIG EAST title and NCAA Regional berth as a junior in 2015, finishing 10th at the conference championships that year.
Nelson will begin courses at Marquette University Law School in the fall.
