MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University women's volleyball team made quick work of Providence on Friday night as the squad downed the Friars in straight sets, 25-13, 25-23, 25-21.
The Golden Eagles improved to 13-5 on the season and are an undefeated 7-0 in BIG EAST play after winning eight matches in a row, dropping just one set in that frame. Allie Barber led the attack with 15 kills, followed by Anna Haak's Marquette career-high 14 and Jenna Rosenthal's 13 kills. Marquette hit .378 and combined for 41 digs, while holding Providence (13-7, 2-3) to just 27.
Lauren Speckman notched 43 assists and Hope Werch had a team-high 11 digs to go with her five kills.
After Marquette took the first set, 25-13, the Friars stormed out of the second set, going on a 9-2 run to pull in front, 13-7. The Golden Eagles continued to fight and tied the set at 23-23 after Rosenthal connected on a kill before Barber launched back-to-back kills, giving MU the 25-23 win.
In the third set, Marquette battled the Friars to come out with a 25-21 victory capped by a Haak kill.
The Golden Eagles will hit the road for two matches next weekend, traveling to Villanova on Saturday, Oct. 14 before moving down to Georgetown Sunday, Oct. 15.
