
MU Takes Down Seton Hall in Three Sets

MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette women's volleyball team defeated Seton Hall in three sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-19) on Friday night in their second BIG EAST contest of the season and their third straight match sweep.
Allie Barber led the squad with 16 kills and a .406 hitting percentage, followed closely by Jenna Rosenthal who had 15 kills and a .462 hitting percentage on the night and tallied six blocks. Anna Haak tallied her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs. Lauren Speckman continued her strong sophomore campaign as she dished out 40 assists, which increases her season average to 12.04 per contest.
MU (8-5, 2-0) topped Seton Hall 25-20 in the first set and came back from trailing 7-4 in the second frame to take another 25-20 victory behind five kills apiece from Barber and Haak. The Golden Eagles surpassed the Pirates 25-19 in the third set to win the match. MU never trailed in the third set, though the Pirates (6-8, 0-1) came within one point, 19-18, which forced Marquette to call a timeout. After the break, the Golden Eagles forced two Seton Hall errors and had three kills from Barber to put away the match.
The Pirates were paced by Abby Thelen with 11 kills, while Sarah Kenneweg collected a match-high 14 digs.
The Golden Eagles combined to hit .276 in the match and allowed Seton Hall to hit at just a .137 clip.
Marquette will welcome St. John's to the Al McGuire Center on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. CT. That match will be streamed on GoMarquette.com or the College Sports Live app and produced by the Marquette Wire.
