
Marquette Tops Villanova, 67-57

VILLANOVA, Pa.--The Marquette women's basketball team got back to its winning ways with a 67-57 victory at Villanova on Sunday afternoon at Jake Nevin Fieldhouse.
Erika Davenport recorded her sixth double-double of the year with 22 points and 12 boards, while Allazia Blockton and Natisha Hiedeman were also in double digits with 21 and 11 points, respectively. Blockton also grabbed eight rebounds.
The Golden Eagles (14-6, 8-1) owned a narrow edge rebounding, 40-34 over the Wildcats (15-5, 5-4) and grabbed 21 points off Villanova miscues. They finished the day shooting 40.3 percent (25-62) from the field and took 32 points in the paint.
Villanova was led by Mary Gedaka and Alex Louin each with 11 points, while Jannah Tucker swatted four blocks.
Marquette held a 34-29 advantage over the Wildcats at the break and shot 41.2 percent (14-34) from the floor in the first half, including 2-for-5 from long range. The Golden Eagles converted nine Villanova turnovers into 14 points.
The Golden Eagles have a week off from games and will return to action on Monday, Jan. 29 at DePaul. The game will air nationally on FS1 with tip-off slated for 8 p.m. CT.
