All five MU starters finished under par in Indiana's home event
WESTFIELD, Ind. — Led by a fifth-place finish from Oliver Farrell (4-under-par, 212), and tie for sixth place from Tyler Leach (3-under-par, 213), Marquette closed its fall season with a third place showing (15-under-par, 849) at the Chatham Hills Collegiate, hosted by Indiana.
The Golden Eagles (274-284-291) shot a 3-over-par third round in cold conditions to close the tournament, while Purdue's 11-under-par final round sprung the Boilermakers from 11 shots back to jump both Marquette and second-place Northwestern, and finish atop the team leaderboard.
For Farrell (68-69-75), who finished seven shots behind co-medalists David Nyfjall of Northwestern and Austin Crowder of IUPUI (11-under-par), it was his fourth tournament under par and fourth top-10 finish in five fall events.
Leach (69-73-71) notched both his first sub par and top-10 finish in his collegiate rookie season. He was one of 12 players in the 66-man field to finish under par on Monday, as average scores jumped from a low of 72.8 in the first round on Sunday, to 75.3 in the final round. He made 36 pars on 54 holes, as the Golden Eagles led the field in par makes as a team at 175.
All five MU starters finished under par and in the top 17 of the event, as Hunter Eichhorn (69-70-75—214), Matt Murlick (70-31-71—214) and Matthew Bachmann (68-72-74—214) tied for 12th at 2-under-par.
