FS2 features television coverage
The Marquette University men's basketball team (1-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) continues its non-league schedule on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. CT when the squad hosts Bethune-Cookman (0-1, 0-0 MEAC) at Fiserv Forum. Â FS2 will feature the national television broadcast, with Telly Hughes (play-b-play) and Stephen Bardo (analyst) calling the action. Â Following Saturday's outing, the Golden Eagles will travel to Indiana on Wednesday, Nov. 14 to participate in the Gavitt Tip-off Games series, which features BIG EAST programs versus Big Ten opponents. Â
The Golden Eagles held the Retrievers to just 22.6 percent (14-of-62) from the field for the game, including a 6-of-28 (21.4 percent) effort from behind the 3-point line.  MU forced 13 turnovers on the night and swatted nine shot attempts.
UMBC's final shooting percentage was the lowest by a Marquette opponent since Illinois State knocked down just 20.0 percent (10-of-50) of its chances on Nov. 15, 2004 in the semifinals of the BCA Classic at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.  MU won that outing 60-32 and was led by Travis Diener's 16 points.
The Minneapolis, Minnesota, native finished the night with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes of action off the bench and also found time to block three shots.  He finished 4-of-5 from the line and five of his boards came at the offensive end of the court.
John appeared in 33 games off the bench as a freshman in 2017-18 and concluded the campaign chipping in 3.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest.  His previous career-best rebounding total (nine) came in the quarterfinal National Invitation Tournament matchup with Penn State at the Al McGuire Center in the season finale on March 20, 2018.

Defense Leads The Way In Opening Win
Marquette's offensive attack has developed into one of the top units in the country under head coach Steve Wojciechowski, but Tuesday's season-opening victory came courtesy of the team's efforts at the defensive end.   The Golden Eagles held the Retrievers to just 22.6 percent (14-of-62) from the field for the game, including a 6-of-28 (21.4 percent) effort from behind the 3-point line.  MU forced 13 turnovers on the night and swatted nine shot attempts.
