MILWAUKEE-A return to Helfaer Tennis Stadium was good for the Marquette women's tennis team as the Golden Eagles downed Illinois-Chicago, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.
After dropping the doubles point, Marquette (2-3) stormed into singles action and swept all positions to finish with the convincing 6-1 win.
Natalija Popovic played for the first time at the No. 1 position and took a 6-3, 6-4 win, followed by Paula Tormos Sanchez earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot. Playing on the No. 3 court, Milica Novakovic earned a 6-3, 6-1 win as Isabella Franks took a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles.
After dropping her first set, 7-6, Andrea Amortegui mounted a comeback to win her last two sets, 6-2 and 10-8. Lesley Foe completed the singles sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 win on the No. 6 court.
The Golden Eagles next travel to Western Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 18 and will face the Broncos at 10 a.m. CT.
