Armstrong Highlights Successful Day for Track & Field

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Marquette men's and women's track and field concluded a busy Saturday at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame and the Ranger Classic hosted by UW-Parkside. Altogether, the Golden Eagles recorded 11 personal-bests on each side and combined for eight all-time list marks on the weekend.

"A lot of good stuff across the board this weekend," Marquette head coach Bert Rogers said. "This first weekend in February is when we really start to see a drop in times and we saw just that. We had a lot of good performances in the field as well. Overall, I like where we're at heading into next weekend at Grand Valley, which should be another fast track, and we can't wait to put down some more good marks."

The highlight of the day was Daniel Armstrong improving his mark in the high jump with a height of 2.19 meters (7-2.25 feet). He took home the win at Notre Dame and ranks atop the BIG EAST list, while ranking 15th in the nation. It was also the second-best jump all-time at Marquette, right behind Wally Ellenson's mark of 2.28 meters (7-5.75) set back in 2015.

TOP FINISHERS

In addition to Armstrong's victory in the high jump, Dominique Smith and Cameron Jemison went 1-2 in the pole vault at UW-Parkside with identical marks of 4.30 meters (14-1.25 feet). Terrance Howard recorded a fourth-place finish in the weight throw at Notre Dame.
For the women, Jenna Rosenthal (high jump), Julie Clayton (pole vault), Allie Flando (shot put) and Madison Marko (55 dash) took home victories at UW-Parkside. At Notre Dame, Jessica Parker had the day's highest finish for the women, taking sixth in the mile with a time of 4:49.45.

ALL-TIME MARKS

Armstrong's high jump mark was the lone list mark of the day for the men, ranking No. 2 all-time.
Marquette women finished 1-2-3 in the pole vault at UW-Parkside with Clayton and Brielle Buechler recording the No. 3 and No. 8 marks all-time. Emma Moravec's time in the 800 meters was worthy of No. 10 all-time.

UP NEXT

The squad heads to Allendale, Mich. to compete at the annual GVSU BIG Meet hosted by Grand Valley State on Friday, Feb. 9.
