Luka Prpa collected the lone Marquette tally with a penalty kick in the 35th minute
GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Marquette University men's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw against host Green Bay in the team's lone road exhibition match of the preseason at Aldo Santaga Stadium on Saturday.
Â
It was a slow start offensively for the Golden Eagles, who were just 8 days removed from the official start of preseason. As the first half went along, momentum grew and opportunities began to develop for Marquette, which led to the lone Marquette goal in the 35th minute.
Â
In the 35th minute, Martin Alba delivered a pass into the penalty area that found the foot of Josh Coan, who drew a hard foul in which the referee awarded a penalty kick. Luka Prpa stepped up and buried the conversion to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The Golden Eagles, which recorded a clean sheet at home against Loyola Chicago in the exhibition opener, now have eight days to prepare for the regular season and home opener against Valparaiso on Aug. 26. Kickoff is set for 4:05 p.m. Central time at Valley Fields.
