The Golden Eagles resume action on their homestand on Monday night against Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to BYU on Saturday at Valley Fields in a match originally scheduled for Friday evening.
Junior goalkeeper Maddy Henry made five saves for the Golden Eagles (1-6-1), who will face Milwaukee on Monday evening before opening BIG EAST Conference action next weekend.
The Cougars (4-2-1) fired the first eight shots of the match and Maddie Gates scored first in the 18th minute from the center of the box off a feed from Elise Flake.
Makaylie Moore scored right before the half on a diving header with 51 seconds remaining in the frame. Moore was set up by Rachel Lyman, who sent the ball into the box for her third assist of the year.
Flake added BYU's third goal of the afternoon in the 64th minute.
Abby Hess notched Marquette's first shot in the 34th minute and Carrie Madden had a header saved four minutes later as BYU goalkeeper Sabrina Davis kept the match scoreless at that point.
The Golden Eagles played the match without head coach Markus Roeders on the sidelines for the first time in his 23-year tenure at Marquette. Roeders received a red card in the closing minutes of MU"s last match on Sept. 9 at Drake.

Then-freshman goalkeeper Amanda Engel made nine saves for the Golden Eagles, who ended the season 18-2-3 in their third appearance in an NCAA regional semifinal.
All-time, Marquette is 2-1-1 against the Cougars and owned victories in the two previous meetings at Valley Fields, a 2-1 win on Sept. 22, 2000 and a 1-0 overtime triumph on Sept. 6, 2008. Current assistant coach Ashley Bares started at forward in the 2008 match, which was won on a 99th minute goal from Rosie Malone-Povolny.
