The Golden Eagles will welcome Colorado to the Valley on Thursday for their next match
DURHAM, North Carolina  – Zoe Redei scored a pair of goals as No. 3 North Carolina defeated the Marquette University women's soccer team, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Duke Nike Classic at Koskinen Stadium.
With the heat index hovering around triple digits, the Golden Eagles (0-4-1) had all but two members of the travel party see action. All players to see the field tallied at least 10 minutes for MU, save freshman forward Macey Shock. Marquette was out-shot 26-4  for the contest and junior goalkeeper Maddy Henry made eight  first half saves.
Henry and freshman midfielder Katrina Wetherell each earned all-tournament recognition for their play over the weekend. Henry posted a combined 15 saves against No. 12 Duke and No. 3 North Carolina.
Carolina led 3-0 after 45 minutes and added its final goal of the match in the 72nd on a tally by Madison Schultz. Redei tallied her first two goals of the season in the 26th and 34th minutes and Julia Ashley posted her second of the year less than two minutes after Redei's second marker.
Senior goalkeeper Sloane Carlson made her season debut late in the first half at forward as a substitution for left back Maddy Monticello. She played the final 8:02 of regulation as a sub for Henry.
The Tar Heels hold a 5-0 edge in the all-time series against Marquette with four of the contests coming in this event. Then-No. 1 UNC beat MU, 1-0, in 2009 when the two played at Notre Dame.
The Golden Eagles return to Milwaukee to host Colorado on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. Central time. The match will be broadcast live on GoMarquette.com.
