Luis Barraza makes season-high seven saves
SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The Marquette University men's soccer team fell to host Seton Hall, 2-0, in BIG EAST Conference action at Carroll Field on Saturday.
Â
Luis Barraza made a season-high seven saves for the Golden Eagles (3-5-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST), who evened their record in league play. The Pirates (4-2-1, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) also evened their league mark after scoring goals in the third minute of each half.
The formidable attacking forward for Seton Hall, CJ Tibbling, registered both goals for the home side – his third and fourth goals of the season – and nearly added a third if not for Barraza's brilliance. The senior netminder made several acrobatic stops throughout the contest to keep the Golden Eagles within striking distance.
Â
Seton Hall had perhaps its top all-around match this season. The Pirates recorded their first clean sheet, while outshooting the Golden Eagles, 18-10, with a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Â
Marquette's best chance came in the 27th minute when Luka Prpa sent a screamer off the right post, then another ticketed for inside that same post before Andreas Nota made a diving save to his left.
Â
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday in another rivalry game as they face in-state foe Wisconsin at Valley Fields. Kickoff is slated for 7:05 p.m. Central time.
