Wisconsin's 55th minute goal held up in the 55th Annual I-94 Showdown
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's soccer team concluded its non-conference slate with a 1-0 setback to Wisconsin at Valley Fields on Wednesday night.
Â
Following Wisconsin's Andrew Akindele's 55th minute goal, the Golden Eagles ratcheted up the pressure, but were unable to find the equalizer on Wednesday.
Â
Luka Prpa led the Golden Eagles with a pair of shots, including one on target, while Connor Alba fired off two shots of his own, but the best chance of the night came from Josh Coan. The junior was on the receiving end of a great ball and great run by Alba, but slid his shot just wide of the far right post in the 77th minute.
Marquette (3-6-0) tallied eight-of-nine shots, along with six-of-seven corners kicks, in the final 45 minutes. Wisconsin (4-4-1) ultimately owned the edge in shots with 16, including four each from Aikindele and Isaac Schlenker.
Â
Cedrik Stern made three saves in his third start of the season for Marquette, while Wisconsin's Dean Cowdroy tallied two saves for his third shutout of the year.
Â
The Golden Eagles close out the regular season with seven-straight BIG EAST Conference games, beginning with Georgetown on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Valley Fields. Kickoff is slated for a 7:05 p.m. Central time start.

Â77' | Check out this great run by @connor_alba on the front end and then a near miss on the back post by @jcoan98. Golden Eagles still searching for the equalizer.
