Oliver Farrell's 6-under-par start helped put the Golden Eagles within striking distance of a second straight win
LAKE FOREST, Ill — Senior Oliver Farrell notched seven birdies in 36 holes on Sunday to sit tied for second place at 6-under-par, as Marquette is in fourth place with an even par day at the Windon Memorial, hosted by Northwestern at Knollwood C.C.
Matt Murlick's second round 68 (4-under-par) put him at 1-under-par for the tournament, tied for 10th place and six shots off the leading pace set by UC Davis's Thomas Hutchinson at 7-under-par.
Marquette (291-285—576) is nine strokes behind leader Michigan State (9-under-par) entering Monday's final round. The Golden Eagles tee off beginning at 8:45 a.m. CT in a grouping with Memphis and Northwestern players.
Along with his seven birdies, Farrell's 26 par makes over the first and second rounds were tied for third-most in the field. His 4-under-par total performance on Par 4s was lowest in the 92-man tournament.
Farrell's day-long success gave Marquette a boost that was aided by Murlick's second round. After a 3-over-par 75 in the first round, Murlick rebounded and made four birdies with no bogeys in the second to end the day as one of 18 players under par.
